Admission Brochures of CNU,2022
Approved by the Ministry of Education, P.R. China, Chongqing Normal University (hereafter as CNU) enrolls overseas students every year. Short-term programs are available year around. There are two semesters for both long-term training and degree programs students (Fall semester: September to January; Spring Semester: February to July). Students who want to study at CNU should apply at least one month in advance.
Ⅰ. Length of the Programs:
1. Short-Term Training Programs: 2 to 10 weeks.
2. Long-Term Training Programs: one semester to two semesters.
3. Bachelor programs: 4 years.
4. Master programs: 3 years.
5. Doctor programs: 4 years
ⅡAdmission Requirements:
1. Applicants for Long-term and Short-term Training Programs
Age: Between 18 and 50, in sound health.
2. Applicants for Bachelor Program
Age: Between 18 and 25.
Language Proficiency: A certified high school diploma for bachelor’s degree applicants is required, having achieved the required level of New HSK (the Chinese Proficiency Test) level 4 or above.
3. Applicants for Master program
Age: Between 18 and 35.
Requirements: A certified bachelor degree for Master’s degree applicants is required; two letters of recommendation by associate professors or professors (original copy or scanned copy), having achieved the required level of New HSK (the Chinese Proficiency Test) level 5 or above.
4. Applicants for Doctor Program
Age: under 40.
Requirements: A certified master degree for Doctor’s degree applicants is required; two letters of recommendation by associate professors or professors (original copy or scanned copy), having achieved the required level of New HSK (the Chinese Proficiency Test) level 5 or above.
Notes:
1. Applicants should submit the applications at least two months before the new semester starts.
2. The entry requirements for project students shall be implemented in accordance with the relevant project agreement stipulations
Ⅲ. Application Procedures:
1. Applicants shall contact the International Students Office, at Chongqing Normal University or visit its official website (http://international.cqnu.edu.cn) to acquire the enrollment information.
2. Applicants should Log in to the website of Chongqing Normal University, register in the “International Students Management system of Chongqing Normal University" (http://foreignstudent.cqnu.edu.cn) and submit the required materials.
3. Send the application materials
All the application documents should be printed and send to International Office of Chongqing Normal University. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.
4. After approval of all the documents, the International Students Office will send Admission Notice and Visa Application Form to the applicants, with which the applicants shall go to the Chinese embassy or consulate for an X Visa (students’ Visa).
5. Applicants shall come to the International Students Office of CNU for registering on the required date and hand in all the necessary documents for admission. The documents needed are Admission Notice, Passport, JW202 Form, Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, 4 one-inch passport pictures. All tuition fees must be paid before the semester begins.
6. Overseas students who transfer from another Chinese University to Chongqing Normal University shall finish the Application Form for Admission and send the form, a transferring certificate by the previous school, and other required application documents to the International Students Office, Chongqing Normal University.
Ⅳ Application Materials

2. Highest diploma attained or proof of study (notarized photocopy).Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3. Transcripts of the most advanced studies (notarized photocopy).
4. Study plan (written in Chinese or English).
5. Two letters of recommendation. Applicants for master/doctor degree shall provide two letters of recommendation by associate professors or professors.
6. HSK and HSKK copy (bachelor applicants are required HSK4 copy, Master /Doctor applicants are required HSK5 copy)
7.Copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (for applicants who are currently not studying at Chongqing Normal University) completed Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (available at http://international.cqnu.edu.cn) together with the original copy (lab copy of AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, type B Hepatitis and X-ray) of the health examination from hospitals with red stamp.
8. Copy of passport.
9. No criminal record certification.
10. Bank deposit certificate (no less than 25,000 RMB).
11. Resume.
12. Scholarship application table if applicants apply for scholarships.

Free airport or train station pick up service for new students is available upon request in advance.

Ⅶ. Scholarship
Chongqing Normal University is a key reception institute of Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Teacher Scholarship, and Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship for overseas students. CNU has also set up CNU President Scholarship for those excellent overseas students studying at the University. Welcome to apply for scholarships.
A. Chinese Government Scholarship
1. Application time: January 1 to April 1
2. Basic information of scholarship
Full scholarship
-Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee and on-campus accommodation fee;
-Living allowance (3000 RMB per month for postgraduate student; 2500 RMB per month for undergraduate student, 3500 RMB per month for doctor student)
-Fee for Comprehensive Medical Insurance in China;
3. Eligibility
(1) Applicants should be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
(2) Applicants should not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application; or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year.
(3) Applicants for doctor degree must have a master degree and be under the age of 40.Applicants for master degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35. Applicants for Bachelor degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 25.
4. Application Materials
Applicants are required to submit application on the website of China Scholarship Council and the website of study in Chongqing Normal University. All the application documents should be printed and send to International Office of Chongqing Normal University in triplicate. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application. The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly. Chinese Government Scholarship Online Application website:http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/. Chongqing Normal University website: http://foreignstudent.cqnu.edu.cn.
(1) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (printed by CSC), in Chinese or in English. Applicants are required to submit application on the website of China Scholarship Council and have the application printed. Choose Type B before you fill the application table .Agency No. of Chongqing Normal University is 10637.
(2) Passport copy.
(3) Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
(4) Applicants for doctor’s degree shall provide notarized transcripts for master’s degree. Applicants for master’s degree shall provide notarized transcripts for bachelor’s degree. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
(5) A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words).
(6) Applicants shall submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.
(7) Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicants’ own work. Applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
(8) Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. Students who win the scholarship will also be required to take physical examination when they arrive in China in September, 2022. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining the time to take the medical examination.
(9) HSK4 Copy for undergraduate students and HSK5 Copy for graduate or doctor students.
(10) No criminal record certification.
(11) Bank deposit certificate (no less than 25,000 RMB )

B. International Chinese Teacher Scholarship
1. Application time:
15th April (Four weeks programs in July)
15th May (Programs begin from September)
15th September (Four weeks programs begins in December)
15th November (Programs begin from March of next year)
2. Eligibility & Categories
Application is open to applicant who holds a non-Chinese citizenship, aged between 18 and 35 years, in good character and excellent learning. (Applicant currently holding a Chinese language teaching position must not exceed the age limit of 45；Applicant for undergraduate program must not exceed the age limit of 25.)
2.1 Chinese Language Teacher Programme
1).Scholarship for Master Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) Students
Enrollment starts in September 2022. This master program is for 3 academic years in Chongqing Normal University. And this category provides a scholarship for 2 academic years. The Applicants must possess a bachelor degree or its equivalent, a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 5), and a minimum score of 60 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level). Applicant who is able to provide the employment agreement or certification upon completion of study from designated working institutions is preferred.
2).Scholarship for Bachelor Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) Students
Enrollment starts in September 2022. This bachelor program is for 4 academic years in Chongqing Normal University. And this category provides a scholarship for 4 academic years. Applicants must possess a high school degree or its equivalent, a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 4), and a minimum score of 60 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level).
3).Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study (Students)
This category provides a scholarship for 11 months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible. Enrollment starts in September 2022.
Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
Applicant must have a minimum score of 270 in HSK Test (Level 3), and 60 in HSKK test (Beginner Level), and possess HSKK result.
Chinese Literature、Chinese History、Chinese Philosophy
Applicant must have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 4), and 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
Chinese Study
Applicant must have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 3), and applicant who possesses HSKK result will have the priority.
4).Scholarship for One-Semester Study Students
Enrollment starts in September 2022 or March 2022.This category provides a scholarship for 5 months. Applicants who already have X1 or X2 visa will be refused.
5).Four-week Program
Enrollment starts in June 2022 or December 2022. This category provides a scholarship for 4 weeks. Applicants who already have X1 or X2 visa will be refused.
Chinese Study + Home Visit
Applicants must possess HSK result and should have a desire to want to visit Chinese family. Applicants must apply in group through their recommendation Institute. A group can only have between 10--15 applicants.
Four-week Project
Applicants must possess HSK result, and must apply in group through their Confucius Institute. A group can only have between 10--15 applicants.
2.2 Cooperative Scholarships
The “Belt and Road” Local Chinese Teacher Promotion Program is open to applicants who are local Chinese teachers or who can provide a work agreement with the proposed teaching institution. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). For specific admission information, please refer to the application website of the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship.
2.3 Scholarship for Online Programmes
Applicants who meet the scholarship application requirements and cannot study in China can apply the online scholarship program.
a) Online Programme for One-year Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. A general Chinese proficiency test score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) is required, and HSKK scores are preferred.
b) Online Programme for One-Semester Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. Generally, applicants must have an HSK score (no specific requirements for level or score).
c) For Special Online Study Programme, please consult the relevant host institutions for specific application requirements and methods of application. Chinese learners who meet the scholarship application requirements and cannot study in China can participate in the online scholarship program.

3. Scholarship Coverage
a) The International Chinese Teacher Scholarship and Cooperative Scholarships
Scholarship programmes provide full coverage on registration fee, tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (except four-week program students) and comprehensive medical insurance package.
Living allowance is granted on monthly basis. The allowance criteria per person is: Undergraduate student，One-Academic-Year Students, One-Semester Students: RMB 2,500 per month; MTCSOL: RMB 3,000 per month.
b) Scholarship for Online Programmes
This Scholarship programme provide full coverage on registration fee, tuition fee，with no living allowance.
4. Application Procedure
4.1 For all applicants please log on to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarships website (http://cis.chinese.cn) from March 1st 2022 to register. Applicants should also register on the Chongqing Normal University international students online application website ( http://foreignstudent.cqnu.edu.cn).
Complete the International Chinese Teacher Scholarships Application Form online and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents:
For all applicants

☆ HSK, HSKK score reports of no longer than two years.

For degree scholarship program applicants
☆ Certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected year of graduation), and an official transcript.
☆ Applicants for MTCSOL Scholarship are required to provide 2 reference letters either from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide an employment agreement or related documents from the designated teaching institution are preferred.
☆ Applicant who is currently working in a Chinese language teaching related field shall provide an employment certification and reference letters from the agency.
☆ Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.
4.2 Recommending institutions reviews materials and recommends applicants who meet the criteria to our university.
4.3 Chongqing Normal University reviews materials, interview applicants and pre-admits applicants on a competitive selection based process.
4.4 Center for Language Education will conduct an overall assessment of all applications and admit applicants on the basis of competitive selection. Normally, the admission results will be announced 2 months before the term begins.
C. Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship

D. CNU President Scholarship (New Silk Road Scholarship)
1. Application time: April 10 to May 10
2. Basic information of scholarship
First class: free tuition for one year.
Second class: free of 50% tuition for one year.
Applicants could be countries from “The Belt and Road”, as Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Thailand, Russia, Vietnam, Philippines, Hungary and other countries.
Note: The tuition is in accordance with the enrollment tuition standard which made for overseas students, not including accommodation, living expenses, textbook fees, registration fee and other expenses.
3. Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese in good health.
Applicants for bachelor degree must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25. Applicants for master degree must have a bachelor degree, and be under the age of 35.Applicants for doctor degree must have a bachelor degree, and be under the age of 40.
Applicants who have won other scholarships are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Applicants, who are studying in Chongqing Normal University, should have a good class-attendance performance ,say above 90%, should take an active part in the collective activities of the school, and without any record of violation of school rules and regulations ;

(6) Learning to apply for professional music students are required to submit a CD of my works; apply for study the art professional students, are required to provide my works CD (2) painted, two color paintings, two other works);

Ⅷ. Completion of Education and Graduation
Upon the completion of requirements needed to fulfill a program and passing all required courses, overseas students are eligible for the following:
1. Short-Term/Long-Term training students will be granted a Certificate of Completion of his/her particular program.
2. Degree candidates who have successfully defended his/her dissertation will be granted related Graduation Certificate and Degree Diploma.
Ⅸ. Tourism Policy
Chongqing is an ancient and cultural city with unique city architecture on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in Southwestern China. It is extraordinarily rich in tourism resources. Free trips may be arranged by the University within the city limits. During summer vacations or after the completion of your education on campus, group tours can be scheduled by the university with students’ proposals and all expenses incurred will be the personal responsibility of participants.
Fees for International Students of Chongqing Normal University
Ⅰ. Tuition (Chinese currency):
(1) Short-term Training: 4,000RMB for one month.
(2) Long-term Training of Chinese Language and Culture: 7,000RMB per semester, 14,000RMB per academic year.
(3) Long-term Training of Other Majors: Major training programs are paid according to different majors.
(4) Bachelor Programs:
14,000 RMB per academic year for liberal arts programs
16,000 RMB per academic year for science, engineering, economic, management programs
21,000 RMB per academic year for arts and physical education programs
(5) Master Programs:
18,000RMB per academic year for liberal arts programs
20,000RMB per academic year for science, engineering, economic, management programs
27,000RMB per academic year for arts and physical education programs
(6) Doctor Programs
28,000RMB per academic year for liberal arts programs
Ⅱ. Accommodation Fee (Chinese currency):
Apartments on the new campus (with a bedroom and a bathroom, internet interface, 2 students share one room): 5400RMB per academic year per person.
3. Special Explanation
(1) For CNU scholarship students who must live in the international students apartment.
(2) Those who intend to live in on-campus apartments should reserve 40 days in advance.
Ⅲ. Fee for Meals
Students can have meals in the Dinning Halls for Chinese students. The students can also cook for themselves. On average, it costs about 30-50RMB per person per day.
Ⅳ. Text Books and Miscellaneous Fee
Fee for text books depends on the class schedule.
Ⅴ. Application Fee
Applicants should pay 400 RMB for the registration fee. The registration fee will not be refunded, regardless of whether applicants are admitted or not.
Ⅵ. Visa Fee
400RMB for X1 visa (180 days to one year), and 168RMB for X2 visa(less than 180 days). In order to submit all the documents for visa, applicants also need body check in designated Hospital and visa photo in Chongqing, which may cost 400RMB and 30RMB, respectively.
Ⅶ. Insurance Fee
800RMB for a year. All the long-term international students (half year and above) will buy medical insurance. The reimbursement is subject to Chinese Insurance laws and regulation.
Ⅷ. The tuition fee and registration fee are non-refundable. Fees are subject to CNU change.
