The College of Education is the largest secondary college of Chongqing Normal University. It has 126 teaching and administrative staff members, including 101 full-time teachers (further including 14 professors, 8 part-time professors and 42 associate professors). Among the staff members, 30 teachers hold doctor’s degree, 6 are academic leaders or candidates of municipal level, 2 are part-time doctoral supervisors and 2 receive special allowance from the State Council.
The college has been authorized to offer master’s programs with respect to the general discipline of Education, including master’s programs of 8 subordinate disciplines – Pedagogic Principle, Curriculum Theory and Didactics, Special Education, Preschool Education, Comparative Education,Higher Education, Educational History, and Developmental and Educational Psychology, and 5 special master’s programs - Elementary Education, Preschool Education, Special Education, Education Management, and Mental Health Education. Currently in the college, there are 3 municipal key disciplines(i.e. Education, Pedagogic Principle and Special Education), and a municipalkey laboratory – “Key Laboratory for Special Diagnosis of Children’s Psychology and Educational Technology”. Besides, the college is also home to the municipal “Institute of Research on Children with Developmental Disorders” and “Course and Teaching Research Base”, as well as the “Children’s Development and Teachers Education Research Center”, ahumanities research base; it has 2 national model projects of teaching staff construction, 1 national high-quality open class, 3 featured programs of municipal level, 2 teaching teams of municipal level, 9 awards for teaching achievements in Chongqing, as well as 2 municipal research and training base, i.e. “Chongqing preschool education teachers training base” and “Chongqing special education training base”, which have undertaken national training on preschool education and special education, and municipal training of backbone teachers for preschool education and special education.
Presently, the college offers 6 undergraduate programs, i.e. Education, Applied Psychology, Art Education, Preschool Education, Special Education and Educational Technology,and has totally 2,729 in-college students. The students have outstanding performances. For example, in large live TV program - “May Flower” Art Performance of National College Students, students from the college have won national second and third prizes in the “Challenge Cup” finals for many times.
The college has been persisted in a wide range of exchanges and cooperation. As the General Secretary of the Preschool Teacher Education Branch of the National Teachers Education Society, the college has established wide contact in the national preschool education sector; following the academic research concept of “openness, cooperation, exchange and accommodation”, it has established long-term academic links with Harvard University, University of Kansas, Indiana University,Victoria University, Uppsala University, as well as many domestic universities, institutes, scientific research institutions and special colleges. Besides, it has also participated in the international PEN project by signing a formal agreement with the PEN International, and becomes the only cooperator of the project in western China. The college has also joined such international coalition for accessibility as the Pacific Rim Special Education Research Center.
